Breakfrom Blog

Welcome to the Breakfrom Blog. We're just in the process of migrating the design to that of our main web site so some things might not be working perfectly yet. We'll have everything up and running very soon though. Thanks for your patience!

Kind Regards,

The Complete Guide To StumbleUpon Traffic

The Complete Guide To StumbleUpon Traffic

Stumbleupon now provides around 75% of this blogs traffic, and as such i thought it a good time to write a guide for those readers wondering how to get mass stumbleupon traffic. I will also look at what is it, who are the visitors, what are the bounce rates etc

Stumbleupon

Before we look at how to get good Stumbleupon traffic, lets take a look at the demographic we will be aiming towards:

Who are the Stumbleupon stumblers?

  • They are 16 - 35 years old
  • 54% female 46% male
  • They are not interested in buying a product
  • They are Middle class American or European
  • They have a partner but are not married
  • They are bored and looking for something to grab their attention
  • 0.7% will click on an advert
  • 13% will look around other pages on your site
  • The most common name of the visitors -Female: Mary, Males: James

These are of course generalisations and most are only true for the Stumbleupon visitors to this particular blog. But either way they are of help to me when writing an article as i know who i am writing it for and can tailor it to them.

Ok now lets look at what exactly stumble upon is and how to get mass traffic from it.

What is Stumbleupon?

Stumbleupon is a method of surfing the web “randomly”. You download a toolbar, click “stumble” and are taken to a seemingly random webpage, which is actually part of stumbleupon’s webpage database.

For a website to be added to the database a Stumbleupon user surfs the web as normal, sees a webpage that he/she finds interesting and gives it a “thumbs up” (an icon in a toolbar you have to download). Once a webpage has a thumbs up it is added to the Stumbleupon database and can be found randomly when someone clicks “stumble”.

How to get visitors to your website / blog via Stumbleupon

Register at Stumbleupon.com, download the toolbar and go to the webpage you want to promote. Click the thumbs up on it. (It is fine to promote your own webpages as long as they are not full of adverts or considered spam). In the next hour you will recieve a big boost to your ratings. Then it may die down for a few days before it returns again. It will do this for a matter of weeks.

Tips for increasing the amount of Stumpleupon visitors you recieve

- The more thumbs up your page recieves from Stumblers, the more Stumblers you will get.

- Make your page visually appealing to grab the Stumblers attention.

- Add lots of Stumbleupon friends. Then when you submit a new page your friends will see it and hopefully give you a thumbs up

- Submit your page to only the relevant category or you are looking at thumbs down. However add to as many relevant tags as possible

- Have a title that is intriguing and will grab visitors attention

- Do not spam adverts everywhere

- Review similar pages to your own - they will appreciate it and may review yours/ become a reader

- Get involved in the community

- Visit and thumbs up plenty of websites.

- Bounce rates and quality of traffic are fairly high, so make sure your page links to other pages of interest that you have!

If you have any questions or tips let me know, otherwise good luck!
