How to uninstall AOL from a pre-installed Gateway on Windows Vista / XP
America Online comes pre-installed on many Vista computers and can be a pain to uninstall. If it has taken over your Internet Explorer (or any other web browser), then it can be even trickier to reclaim. This guide will take you through the process in two easy steps.
- How to uninstall AOL 8.0 and 9.0 on Windows Vista
1. Close down AOL
2. Click on Start Menu: Control Panel
3. Programs and Features: Find AOL then click on Uninstall/Change
4. Click on AOL then clickRemove/Uninstall
5. Restart computer IF prompted.
- To reclaim Internet Explorer (IE 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 8.0) from AOL
1. Click here to go to LItePC IEradicator
2. Download BUT DO NOT RUN IT YET.
3. Click here to go BrowsersEvolt.
4. Download Internet Explorer into a folder on your PC. (However we recommend Firefox as we believe it is the best web browser available - if interested download it here, run and use instead of IE)
5. Run IERadicator. This will delete / uninstall your version of Internet Explorer completely
6. Run the IE or Firefox you downloaded in step 4.
You should now have a cleanly installed Internet Explorer. Any problems leave a comment and we will reply.
