What is link building and how does it work?

As I mentioned above, it is the process of getting other sites on the internet to link to your own. The idea behind it being that the more sites google finds that have a link to yours on them, the more popular/important it perceives your site to be. The more popular it deems you via this method the higher ranked your site will become in search engine results. (this is not how all search engines work but most, including Google do use this)
Google will only take note of these links if they come from popular or highly rated sites. Our recommendation would be only to apply to sites that have a google page rank 2 or higher. We do not usually think Google page rank is important, but if it is Googles search engine you are trying to climb higher on, then it is worth using a Google tool like this. Google page rank

Google page rank is a spurious form of measurement for site popularity that the company introduced fairly recently. It is unknown to everyone, except possibly Google, how exactly it ranks sites. It is assumed however that it ranks depend upon on a mixture of traffic it receives, external links pointing towards it and the content it contains. New websites may not have a page rank for many months. It is also possible to have a very successful website with thousands of visitors and sales and still not being ranked highly, if at all.
To see a websites Google page rank you can download the Google toolbar then once it is installed right click on it and select show page rank. Again, do not worry to much about it but it may be useful for link building your way up Googles search results.

How do I link build?

The most effective method is to submit your website to popular directories – DMOZ and Yahoo directories being high quality examples. Link building takes time. It is a long tedious process but it will yield results eventually, so don’t give up adding your site to directories and websites.

Here are some breakfrom tips for an effective Link Building campaign.

• Be clear and concise with your title and description when adding your site to a directory. Before you even begin, write into a notepad four uniquely worded descriptions of your site. Google appreciates different descriptions as it looks less like spam than a 1000 links all saying the same thing. Four varying descriptions should be more than enough.

• Save the document. You will need it often to copy and paste from.

• Some sites will want meta tags/meta descriptions, so write down twenty words separated by commas that best describe your site and then save them into your notepad document.

• Do not submit to sites/directories that require reciprocal links. Many search engines will frown upon this.

• Submit to sites/directories that are relevant to your own. If a directory make sure you have found the most relevant category.

• Do not be afraid to email sites asking them to link to your own site. They will probably say no, but on the off chance it may be well worth it. (remember, no reciprocal links!)

• Aim to submit no more than ten a day! It will build up fast, not drive you totally insane and if you do hundreds a day Google will be suspicious and possibly even penalise your site.

• Give it time! Directories can take up to a year to look at and accept your site. It is also possible it will only take one day, but do not expect that often.

• Make sure your site is finished, has unique content and is not plagued by adverts as many directories rule out sites that have these problems.

• Consider buying links on highly ranked pages. It is a good way for a fast and guaranteed link that will hold much sway with the search engines. For more information please contact us.

• Stay away from sites that promise you 10,000 submissions for a sum of money – it will not happen. Also stay away from software that promises to automatically submit your site. There are many sites, such as us, that offer genuine manual link submission which is the only effective way of doing it.
